moped [03 Jul 2003|09:24pm]
[ mood | moped ]
[ music | moped by the mopeds ]

This story is brought to you by the collabrotive efforts of adrienne and adria....

While adria hunted for the ever so elusive bluffs of bloomington, adrienne took off the afternoon to recoup from a toe injury sustained the night before. The girls met up in the early evening for a rousing round of lego building and wine drinking. In the midst of their fun a strange sound floated through the window. They sprang up from their play, scattering legos everywhere. Just then a rugged, lumberjack of a man sauntered through the door, nearly displacing it from it's hinges. He swept the two ladies away in a gust of passion. An evening filled with ice cream and enchantment followed. The climax, however, of these young ladies lives occured after all the sweets. On cottage grove avenue they went for the ride of their lives. The rugged enchantor put the key in the egnition of his purple/pink moped and handed the bars over to them. With a quick flick of the wrist they were off for a dangerous and exhilarating one block adventure. That one block proved to a exciting enough for a movie, a book or maybe just a livejournal entry. They were chased by a car, attacked by a duck and almost hit by a train. The short, but novel adventure proved to be enough action for the two young ladies, at least for one night. They handed the bars back over to the rugged, lumberjack of a man and he scooted away into the night.

generations [18 Jun 2003|11:19am]

photo taken June of '61

Looking at my life, I see the effects of two generations, those of my grandparents and my parents. My grandparents were of the noble generation...born in poverty, hardships throughout adolscence. They were of the generation of great men and women that built everything up from the bottom. They also married and bore children in record amounts, giving way to the babyboomers, my parents' generation.

whereas the generation of my grandparents' had nothing and worked towards everything, the majority of this new generation was born on the cusps of the new-found security of their parents. There wasn's as much "want" as there was "having".

In my life, there has always been in a struggle in the effect of these generations on me. One is telling me not to value the other, the other is telling me the one is stubborn and not to listen to them.

right now i am in a place where i am trying to decide what *i* value...i don't want to become a part of this even-more spoiled and sheltered generation that i am seeing myself getting more and more comfortable. my grandparents' worked hard to give themselves a good name and provide for my parents...my parents worked to give to me while my grandparents are giving at the same time in equal or larger amounts...either i am going to have to give back in mass quantities or do something about it.

damn you tom brokaw and your book.
